"(...)"if you were to describe me in one word, what would it be?", and this is what they answered: unique, ambitious, positive, energetic, extrovert, shining star, fascinating aura, eternal child, a mixture of unexplainable things, most extravagant simplicity, sensible, powerful, secure, unpredictable, passionate, and even insanely talented."

Alessandra Mendonca Correa, also known as Lele by her close friends, was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the 28th of January, 1988. She is not only a patriotic Brazilian, but also a proud Luso-Portuguese. During her childhood, her passion for dancing and singing was evident, and with the years she then grew fanatical for Acting. Her path to perform arts was unmistakable. It all started in 1998, at Saint Dominic’s International School’s (Portugal) “Talent Quest”, where she won first place dancing to Spice Girl’s “Wanna be” for which she, alone, choreographed. Becoming quite sensitive to the arts, she decided to take Theatre lessons in 6th grade. She remembers admiring the graduating students of her school, performing in plays such as Romeo and Juliet, Wizard of Oz, and Grease. However, she soon gave up on the idea of becoming an actress since she would never be casted for any of the school plays; not because she didn’t have talent, but because she was too young and did not have enough experience.

But her hopes soon grew again after having participated in the “Forensic Tournament” in Argentina when she was in 8th grade, being complimented by the judge for her courage and determination for not giving up even after she had forgotten all her lines. It was the fact that she got an encouraging score that made her want to show that she could do much more and much better.

And it was through her first real play, The Effects of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds (Paul Zindel), at Colegio Internacional de Caracas (Venezuela), that she was able to prove it. Playing the strong character of “Ruth”, her teacher/director realised the aptitude and the might Alessandra had in herself. She remembers with a smile on her face the words of her Theatre teacher/director saying to her: “You are one of the two students in this school who I believe have the talent and the strength to take Theatre as a living.” (Mr. Webber, 2003).

And so she began. Being casted for major parts in plays such as Jesus Christ Superstar as “Mary Magdalene” (Dec. 2003), The Lion King Musical as “Mufasa” (Dec. 2004), Hamlet as “Queen Gertrude” (July 2005), West Side Story as “Anita” (Dec. 2005), and among others, gave her enough experience to finally enter the BA(Hons) Performing Arts (Acting) course in The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts in Liverpool, England, 2006. Now she intends to make the most out of it to become a real, professional, and ongoing Actress. Her Future awaits.
